The country of Denmark is located in the European cultural realm.
The Danes are very healthy eaters and eat lots fruits, vegetables, beef, and fish. Some of their nationally recognized dishes are smørrebrød, frikadeller, and hakkebøf. Smørrebrød is like a sandwich with not bread top, Frikadellers are like meatballs, and hakkebøf is a beef patty served with vegetables. Another element of local culture of Denmark is that at almost any celebration, Danish flags are all over the place and at birthday parties, a child's cake is the shape of a human.
Denmark is multilingual because it has many languages spoken within its borders.

Danish is the official language of Denmark.

As we know, Danish is an European language. But the question is, why is it different than all of the other? Well, Danish came from a branch of languages called West Germanic (which was a division of Germanic languages). This branch came from the widely accepted Proto-Indo-European music; Proto-Indo-European is what is observed as the "mother" language of all of the Indo-European languages.
Christianity is Denmark's most practiced religion.
|
Because of the fact that the Holy Roman Empire was directly south of Denmark, the old Norse religion was constantly under fire by their southern neighbors. It wasn't until 826when Christianity got a foothold in Denmark. In the year 826, King Harald Klak agreed to be baptised and converted to Christianity. After that point, many kings used Christianity as a way for more power and spread throughout Denmark by hierarchical diffusion. Soon, Danish missionaries begain to spread Christianity.

A cultural conflict that has happened and is yet still going on in the country of Denmark is the treatment of Muslims. Islamophobia is running rampant in Europe and it has affected Denmark. Even though Denmark has been known as tolerant towards other religions, it is still being affected by the islamophobia. The main cause of this are the increasing attacks by Islamic terrorists in Europe. Denmark has laws specifically for Muslims. For example, Muslims have been denied in the building of mosques in Copenhagen, Denmark's capital. Also, much discussion about banning the immigration of Muslims has been a topic; Danish politician, Søren Espersen, has been a major advocate for the barring of Muslims from Denmark. The effects of theses conflicts can be public mistrust of Muslims. This conflict has been affected spatially because of the fact that Denmark is located in Europe, where strings of terrorism have occured recently.
